Desparately Seeking Search

November 29, 2004: Source - DigitalEdge.org

This is worth a good few reads if you're focusing on local online marketing. The Kelsey Group sponsored their "Interactive Local Media" conference Nov. 3-5 in Jersey City, NJ and I'm still kicking myself for not making it.

Luckily, good resources from it are available. Some attendees representing newspapers even got to speak their minds about it. They definitely did and I'm glad we stay on top of this.

"SMEs (Small and Medium sized Enterprizes) have the least amount of time to deal with complex Internet advertising solutions, yet are the most desired by local search users"
That caught my eye.

SuperPages Adds Shopping and Web Search

November 17, 2004: Source - ClickZ

If you're a local business, Superpages gives you another reason to utilize many marketing techniques such as search engine marketing, Internet yellow pages and other portals such as Ebay (if you sell products). Here is an example of a Superpages search for hockey equipment in Minneapolis, MN.

It's not perfect, but it's another positive step forward for local online marketing. The article is a very good read.

Search Engines Go Local

November 08, 2004: Source - Forbes

It's a decent article, and Ingenio's Pay-Per-Call model is definitely a good thing for small businesses with or without a website. I'm probably going to suggest it for local businesses. This article does seem to point that this is the new 'wave of the future' and SEO is of the past. I don't get that part.

Topix, CitySearch Team Up for Local Content

November 04, 2004: Source - ClickZ

CitySearch is out making more friends. In addition to providing ask.com results for their new local search campaign, they're now partnering with Topix, leading Internet source for local news. Pretty big Topix fan here, they've done it right.

Missing Pieces Fall Into Place

November 02, 2004: Source - Search Engine Watch

Good piece written by Greg Sterling from The Kelsey Group on how 'local' search marketing is now more viable than ever.
